Aberdeen text study on alcohol

NHS Grampian is trialling new way to spread their message about the dangers of binge drinking and sexually transmitted diseases. Over the coming year, as part of a pilot study in Scotland, a text message will be sent by researchers every Friday night to known binge drinkers who are seen to be a hazard to themselves, to encourage them to drink in moderation. It is hoped that the text, sent to binge drinkers in their twenties, before they even set out to the pubs and clubs, will deter them and remind them of the dangers.

Sexually transmitted diseases are strongly linked to binge drinking with a sexual health specialist at Aberdeen’s Woolmanhill Hospital, where the study is being led from, saying that one study had shown that 50% of people who had come to the sexual [Read more]

New brochure for Aberdeen hotel

Effektive, an independent design agency based in Glasgow set up by Greig Anderson a former Curious creative, has been tasked to design a new sales brochure for Simpson’s Hotel, an Aberdeen based establishment.

The brochure has been designed to showcase the Aberdeen based hotel’s facilities, ranging from rooms and suites to bar and corporate facilities. The hotel also has a full serviced apartment development that goes under the name of Kepplestone Manor and this will also be highlighted in the sales brochure. University in Aberdeen invests in new guillotine

Stationery and brochure printers in Aberdeen will all know how important a good guillotine is to their post press operation. Robert Gordon University press replaced their old Polar guillotine last year with a newer model. They invested in a new Heidelberg Polar 78X machine in November. They are using the new guillotine on a range of print marketing promotional material and printed stationery products.

The X range guillotines were introduced by Heidelberg in 2005. The new family of 78s brought enhancements to the design and a new control technology. The X range came in three versions: the XS, X, and XT. The control panel had a 15in colour-display with GUI for automated programmed functions.

Worker loses arm in machine

Last year a worker at the now closed International Paper plant, at Inverurie in Aberdeenshire Scotland, lost an arm after a gruesome accident at work. The incident was likened to a nineteenth century ‘Dickensian-style’ event. Despite legislation which was introduced well over a hundred years ago International Paper failed to provide an adequate safety barrier on the machine.

The incident happened after a paper break in the machine. The unfortunate worker was tail feeding after the break. Whilst attempting to throw a sheet of paper into the machine it became entangled around his arm. The worker was dragged into the machine, resulting in the terrible consequences.

Aberdeen City Council promises a night of seasonal joviality at the Iron Broo Christmas Ceilidh. The dance is on Saturday 19th December at the Culter Club, Peterculter, Aberdeen.
