The campaign has been launched to try to encourage men to come forward for advice and support in Charnwood rather than suffer in silence if they feel that they are victims of domestic abuse.

The poster campaign will run for a month at the local Morrison’s supermarket and mobile poster advertising will back the campaign up in November when Domestic Abuse Awareness week is held. The campaign is to help male victims find their voice to speak up against the abuse. Statistics says that one in six men will suffer from some sort of domestic abuse at some point which can include emotional and psychological as well as physical or sexual. It is acknowledged that men often find it difficult to admit their suffering and the campaign is to show that all members of the community have the right to live their life free from violence and that their fears will be taken seriously and there is help available for them. By law, men are protected by the same laws as women and have the same right to be safe in their homes

The poster will advertise Loughborough Women’s Aid as they offer outreach support for male victims in the area. Loughborough Women’s Aid has just received nearly half a million pounds over the next five years from its Big Lottery Fund bid to enable them to help even more people in the area.

Businesses looking for companies offering banner printing in Loughborough will recognise the impact of advertising banners and the flexibility of the format. Advertising banners offer a great opportunity to allow a company to stand out and, due to their temporary nature, they can provide a fantastic targeting opportunity – particularly if you want to catch people on routes to specific events.

However, as great as banners can be for giving companies a perfect opportunity to target just where they want, it is important to remember the necessity to get the appropriate permissions for erecting banners or your brand may suffer. Particularly by the side of high traffic roads, banners may come under fire from health and safety regulations due to being so close to the side of the road.

Taking the example of a charity fete in Reading this month; their banners came under fire from the local council’s health and safety regime. The Lions Summer Fete is held every year in Reading and has been supported in the past by banners advertising the event around roads in the area. However, Reading Borough Council has now told the fete organisers that they now require planning permission to erect banners to ensure that the locations comply with health and safety rules.

Despite the lack of any accidents being caused in the last 15 years that the banners have been displayed, the council is now saying that planning permission is required. Companies should bear in mind these rules and regulations before going to print with advertising banners.

The new owners of London’s Gatwick Airport, Global Infrastructure Partners, are looking to relaunch the airport with a new brand identity for Gatwick. They are looking to position Gatwick Airport as a challenger brand to Heathrow.

Global Infrastructure Partners acquired Gatwick Airport from BAA at the end of 2009 and has since unveiled a new visual identity for Gatwick, created by Lewis Moberly, a branding agency. The new blue and white imagery was developed to ensure differentiation of the airport from its main rival, London’s Heathrow airport.

As BAA is the more established brand identity with consumers, the new brand identity for Gatwick is to challenge Heathrow’s position and to be seen as a friendlier airport with a more human face in the customer’s eyes. Gatwick’s chief executive, Stewart Wingate, claimed that Gatwick is already seen as a friendly and enjoyable place to travel from and so the rebrand is to build on these existing foundations. As part of the rebrand, Naked Communications has created an advertising campaign which launched week commencing 21st June, carrying the strap line “Your London airport – Gatwick” and the rebrand will run alongside investment in facilities at the airport.

Companies in Loughborough who are looking to rebrand and take on a big competitor could work with marketing experts in order to develop a new brand identity. There are also print companies in Loughborough who can provide assistance when looking to produce the necessary rebranded marketing materials, such as brochures and catalogues, along with the basics such as stationery and business cards.

High Street stores in Loughborough may have found that sales fell throughout April due to pre-election uncertainty. According to a report in Marketing Week, figures from the British Retail Consortium indicated that like for like high street sales fell 2.3% against the same month as last year. It appeared that non-food sales were affected as it is thought that consumers were unnerved by the forthcoming election and it affected consumer confidence as consumers kept to essential purchases such as food over this period.

It is not all doom and gloom as the British Retail Consortium acknowledged that trends show that consumers are more willing to spend at this point than a year ago, but given the country’s deficit and the uncertainty around the Government and how they plan to tackle this, people are still mindful of their jobs and their income and it reflects in high street spending.

Falling sales make it more important than ever for retailers to have a strong high street presence with point of sale advertising. Proven to have an impact on sales, a strong point of sale presence can often have a longer lasting effect on sales than offers such as buy one, get one free or two for the price of one, without devaluing your product.

If you are looking for POS printing in Loughborough, there are local businesses in the area that can help you produce posters and POS such as A-boards or window displays that can raise awareness of products, drive footfall and prompt purchase.

David Cameron, who is standing for Prime Minister against Gordon Brown, addressed a crowd of supporters in Loughborough yesterday as he attacked the new Labour manifesto, which was also printed and released this week.

Cameron added that the Tory party is set to print and release its own manifesto today, and that it would offer something from different from that of the Labour party.

Cameron commented:

They will have seen Labour’s manifesto today and I can tell you, that is not going to change anything.

There is nothing new there, there is nothing different there.

We have got a great opportunity tomorrow when we launch our manifesto to show how we are going to be different and how we are going to make a difference.

The manifestos themselves can be read by anyone, but as the printed copies are quite lengthy, Labour has also released a cut down version in animation form to appeal to people who haven’t got the time to wade through the full version.

Cameron also commented that he felt the General Election hadn’t engaged the British public as of yet. He added:

They hear the politicians shouting the odds at each other but they are not listening

They want us to address the big questions, they want us to deal with the big issues.

If you are a local Loughborough retail trader, or even a local Loughborough brochure printer you will be familiar with the iconic Sockman sculpture. The statue is situated in the town centre and celebrates the town’s association with the hosiery industry.

Loughborough Town Centre Partnership, in conjunction with Charnwood Borough Council, plans to use The Sockman in a campaign to promote local traders, including printing companies in Loughborough. The Sockman will be used as the symbol on eco carrier bags, posters, flyers, roadside display boards and window stickers, which will be used in cars and shops. The aim of the campaign is to raise the town’s profile and increase trade. Mr. Adrian McInnes, chairman of the Town Centre Partnership said:

“It’s a campaign to get people shopping in town and buy things locally. We decided to use the Sockman because a lot of people associate Loughborough with it straight away. In these challenging economic times, Loughborough has had to compete with the three major shopping destinations of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby, all of which have extensive promotional campaigns to encourage inward investment”.

It is hoped that the campaign will encourage shoppers to buy locally in an effort to combat the depressed economic climate. Loughborough businesses will wish the campaign every success and hope to see good results. If you are a printing company in or around Loughborough you may have been lucky enough to pick up some of the print work needed for the campaign.

Print companies in Loughborough, from smaller companies printing letterheads and business cards to large print firms, will always be interested in mergers and expansion of other local printers. On the 1st July 2009, Loughborough based Winstonmead merged its sheet specialist company, Shepshed Knight, with Q3 Print Project Management, also based in Loughborough. The purchase of Q3 was completed on the above date for an undisclosed sum.

The company planned to relocate to Q3’s Print Project Management site by the end of 2009, bringing Shepshed Knight’s 13 staff with them. The new print management company was renamed Winstonmead Print after Shepshed Knight’s parent company. The newly merged company will now operate with a total of 30 staff. Staffing levels will be reviewed in the future.

Winstonmead bought Shepshed Knight in September 2008. According Mr. Keith Campsall, Winstonmead regional sales director, since the acquisition Q3 and Shepshed have enjoyed a friendly relationship. No doubt this was a significant factor in the merger decision. Speaking about the purchase of Q3 Mr. Campsall said:

Although Q3 specialises in book work, whereas we specialise in sheet, the synergies between the two companies are enormous

It is a particularly tough time for business during times of recession, perhaps more so for the printing industry, which is always at the forefront of economic activity. It is good to see print firms looking to the future, consolidating their operation and getting into a good position to take advantage of better times when the economic situation experiences a genuine upturn.
