Ware is a quaint, small English town in Hertfordshire playing home to a modest 18,000 people. Despite its small size, Ware is considered to be one of the oldest dwellings in Europe, being continually occupied since well before 4,000 BC and the Mesolithic period. This is according to Robert Kiln, an archaeologist who wrote about Ware in his historical work ‘The Dawn of History in East Herts’.

Ware is also known as the Buryfield. Some people believe this was due to the town’s role in transporting bodies out of London following the Great Plague in 1665, but this is probably an older name dating back to Roman times caused by the number of Roman burial sites found around the town.

Ware is a popular spot for canal and river enthusiasts, with its beautiful scenery visible from the River Lee. It is the River Lee in Ware that is believed to be the site of Alfred the Great’s battle with the Vikings, forcing them out of the water and across land to the River Severn, where they retreated.
The major employer in Ware is GlaxoSmithKline, as well as many other smaller factories and companies. With a bustling economy, the location is perfect for print companies in Ware to blossom. Printing in Ware is also required to print the works of the town’s most famous poet, John Scott, who lived in Ware in the 18th century.
